A Night Out on the Town

With both the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University nestled within a kilometre of each other, Waterloo plays host to a variety of nightlife. Below, the most popular nightlife establishments are listed. Note that many of these establishments are 19+ and require photo identification.

1) Phil’s Grandson’s Place

Perhaps one of the most well-known clubs in the Waterloo, Phil’s Grandson’s Place (most often referred to simply as Phil’s), is a good pick for students looking for typical clubbing experience. One of their most renowned events is their “Sunday Retro Night.”

2) Night School

Like Phil’s Night School is a part of the Uptown Waterloo scene. The advantage here is that should one club not suit one’s interests, there are plenty of other venues to visit. Night School offers a large dance floor, two bars, and $3 coat check. Much of the music is current and popular.

3) Becky’s Apartment

Similarly, Becky’s Apartment is part of the Uptown Waterloo Scene. Becky’s has a smaller venue than many of the clubs in the region, and thus, may have longer lines. Much of the music played is rap, with some being rather obscure.

4) Pub on King

Functioning as both a nightclub and a restaurant/pub, the Pub on King is a multifaceted venue. With a more laid-back atmosphere, casual dress is recommended. Music at Pub on King varies, though country music is occasionally played.

5) Chainsaw

Much like Pub on King, Chainsaw features a laid-back atmosphere. Advertised as a dive bar, Chainsaw features karaoke and makes for a good venue to share drinks with friends.
